CM4D.4ds File

The CM4D.4ds file contains the connection information that is used to access all of the CM4D products to the CM4D Site database. The CM4D.4ds file can alternately contain the CM4D Database connection information for multiple unmanaged DataSources if a site with managed DataSources is not desired.

The CM4D.4ds file provides multiple layers of protection:

• CM4D.4ds files are encrypted and can only be created and modified using the DbConnect application provided with the CM4D product suite.
• Access to the CM4D DbConnect.exe application can be restricted. Although any user can run DbConnect, database user passwords are hidden so that only users who know the Database passwords can successfully edit the CM4D.4ds file.

The site connection information (SITETYPE, SITENAME, SITEDATABASENAME, SITEUSERID and SITEPASSWORD) found in the CM4D.ini file in past versions is obsolete.

System Registry

The location of the Cm4d.4ds file is stored in the following system registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Applied Tech Systems\CM4D\Path

It is highly recommended that you do not modify this key unless you have a specific configuration requirement and are familiar with manual registry changes.
